Things to look out for:
Everton and Umbro were destined to be together. Teaming up as early as the 70s, the combo would go on to produce many of the greatest football shirts English football has ever seen. Even a brief hiatus (thanks to Le Coq Sportif) couldn’t keep the pair apart, and the second Everton x Umbro spell produced equally memorable designs which typified 90s shirts.
In 1999, the second Umbro era came to a close (there would be two more spells in the 00s and 10s). The shirt that season featured an interesting collar unique to Umbro shirts at the time, that played on the v-neck idea with a retro aesthetic. There were also a range of subliminal horizontal lines on both the chest and side panels of the kit, showcasing the refined aesthetic of the late 90s as a pushback to the craziness of the early 90s.
On the pitch, the highlight of the season was arguably a 5-0 mauling of Sunderland on boxing day.
Who made it: Umbro
