Intro: The buttons just keep going.
Newcastle’s 1995 away shirt is an all-time great, a design which you could justifiably position as the best shirt in the club’s history. It also has more buttons than most of the shirts in your collection.
Condition: Very good - This shirt is in very good condition. All the colours throughout the design look great, and there are no pulls or marks across the entirety of the fabric.
Condition details: This iconic shirt is in a condition to match it’s brilliance. With a kit with as iconic a colour combination as this one, bright colours are integral, and you’re getting exactly that with this shirt. The multiple, original buttons mentioned previously as also intact.
The only imperfection to note is a tiny crack on the sponsor.
Things to look out for: To many people, the 95/97 Newcastle United away shirt is one of the best designs of the 90s. Even if you’re not a Toon fan, the maroon and navy hoops sing in harmony to beautiful effect.’
One of the funny things about this shirt is that it isn’t a design that’s particularly steeped in history. Throughout Newcastle’s back catalogue of change designs, the prevailing colour combinations were yellow and green and blue, making the 1995 aesthetic something of a daring leap. But boy did it pay off.
On the pitch, the legacy of this shirt was solidified with two runners-up finishes in the league. Mercurial talents like David Ginola and Tino Asprilla donned the shirt, and this was also club legend Alan Shearer’s first away shirt.
It is quite simply the entire package.
