Things to look out for:
Like NR and Napoli, or Nike and Dortmund, Meyba and Barcelona came together to produce incredibly good football kits that brought out the best of both club and manufacturer.
The Meyba Barcelona shirts were dripping in refined style, with the 1984 shirt being particularly timeless as evidenced by its long run. In modern football you can expect big teams to release at least 4 or even 5 shirts a season, but the ‘84 Barca kit was retained for half a decade. It was a good call; the shirt was a wonderful blend of classic Barca with the tasteful addition of Meyba’s memorable taping. These weren’t particularly baggy kits either, these were sleek shirts that looked as good on the beach as they did on the pitch.
Between ‘84 and ‘89, the groundwork was being laid for future success. The esteemed academy La Masia was in its infancy, whilst the likes of Gary Lineker, Mark Hughes and Bernd Schuster would be the stars of a team that would later be moulded into a dream team, the dream team. Though the Meyba era wasn’t the most successful in terms of cold, hard trophies, it’s hard to argue that Barca enjoyed a more stylish period.
